Benchtop incubators (dry / humidified, multi-chamber)
Small-chamber incubators with rapid recovery, often dry with premixed gas, one or two dishes per chamber.
What it is and how it's used
Fast recovery after opening and per-chamber isolation make them forgiving of door openings, but small volumes and dry operation make drop osmolality and gas supply purity critical.
Typical failure modes
- Displayed vs actual CO₂/temperature drift; a chamber lid seal failing.
- Gas supply issue: cylinder change, regulator, in-line filter saturation → pH shift across all chambers.
- Dry chamber + small drops → osmolality rise over long culture.
- Post-service set-point error.
What to check first
- Independent CO₂ (and O₂) measurement per chamber; dish-level temperature by calibrated probe.
- Gas cylinder change dates and filter change dates vs KPI change.
- Osmolality of medium after culture in that chamber.
- Compare KPIs by chamber/incubator.
IFU and practice notes
Follow the manufacturer's IFU for calibration intervals, humidification, gas requirements and cleaning agents. Validate before first patient use and after service.
