Heated microscope stages and warm blocks
Keep dishes and tubes at ~37°C during handling outside the incubator.
What it is and how it's used
The display temperature is not the drop temperature. Glass vs plastic, dish type, oil layer, room temperature and air flow all change what the embryo experiences.
Typical failure modes
- Drops running cool (35°C) or hot (38.5°C+) at the working position → lower fertilisation, poorer development, ICSI degeneration.
- Warming plate for vitrification thawing solutions below temperature.
- Uneven heating across the stage.
What to check first
- Measure temperature in a drop / in the well with a calibrated probe at each working position; record daily.
- Re-check after any microscope move or room HVAC change.
IFU and practice notes
Calibrate against a traceable reference at the interval the IFU specifies; keep a daily QC log.
