Oocyte denudation (cumulus removal)
Enzymatic and mechanical removal of cumulus cells before ICSI or maturity assessment.
What it is and how it's used
The most common place oocytes are damaged before ICSI: enzyme over-exposure and aggressive pipetting.
Typical failure modes
- Fragile oocytes, zona damage, higher degeneration after ICSI.
- Immature-looking oocytes misclassified when stripping is incomplete.
What to check first
- Enzyme exposure time and concentration.
- Stripper tip diameter sequence and force.
- Time out of incubator, stage temperature.

Follow enzyme IFU; standardise tip sizes and timing in the SOP.
