Ultra-rapid cooling of oocytes/embryos after brief exposure to cryoprotectant solutions, loaded in minimal volume on a device.
What it is and how it's used
Timing, temperature, loading volume and plunge speed are the whole game.
Typical failure modes
- Survival drop clustering by freezing month or operator.
- Ice formation from excess volume or slow plunge; toxicity from prolonged VS exposure.
What to check first
- Stopwatch use; VS exposure time; loading technique on video.
- Blastocyst collapse policy before freezing.
- Device and media lots; LN₂ level at plunge.
IFU and practice notes
Follow the media/device IFU; competency sign-off with practice material; periodic survival audit by operator.
